The best way to prevent suicide is to recognize these warning signs, take them seriously and act on them. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A person might show they are considering suicide in how they feel, talk and behave. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How they feel and talk \u2014 signs include: <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u2022 Feeling alone: \u201cI am on my own\u2026 no one cares about me anymore; no one would even notice I was gone.\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling like a burden: \u201cThey had been better off without me.\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling lack of belonging: \u201cI do not fit in anywhere.\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling hopeless: \u201cWhat is the point? Things will get no better. I cannot take this anymore.\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling guilty: \u201cIt is my fault, I am to blame.\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling trapped: \u201cI cannot see any way out of this mess\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling damaged: \u201cI will never be the same&nbsp;again.\u201d <br> \u2022 Feeling helpless: \u201cNothing I do makes any difference, it is beyond my control and no one can help me.\u201d <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How they behave \u2014 signs include: <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u2022 talking about suicide <br> \u2022 previous suicide attempt\/s <br> \u2022 abusing drugs or alcohol, or using more than they usually do <br> \u2022 withdrawing from friends, family, and society <br> \u2022 appearing anxious and agitated <br> \u2022 having trouble sleeping or sleeping all the time <br> \u2022 changes in mood <br> \u2022 change in appearance <br> \u2022 taking time off work <br> \u2022 having episodes of sudden rage and anger <br> \u2022 acting recklessly and engaging in risky activities <br> \u2022 losing interest in their appearance, such as dressing badly or not washing regularly <br> \u2022 putting their affairs in order <br> \u2022 a recent stressful event <br> \u2022 social withdrawal\/ feeling alienated <br> \u2022 seeming&nbsp;preoccupied with internal thoughts or problem <br> \u2022 putting their affairs in order <br> \u2022 quitting activities which were previously important <br> \u2022 making funeral arrangements <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"204\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fksg.org\/test1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/FKSG-Post-20212-1024x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fksg.org\/test1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/FKSG-Post-20212-1024x204.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.fksg.org\/test1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/FKSG-Post-20212-300x60.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fksg.org\/test1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/FKSG-Post-20212-768x153.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.fksg.org\/test1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/FKSG-Post-20212-1536x306.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.fksg.org\/test1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/FKSG-Post-20212-2048x408.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A person may be at high risk of attempting suicide if they: <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> \u2022 talk, draw or write about death, dying, or suicide <br> \u2022 threaten to hurt or kill themselves <br> \u2022 possess or have ways to kill themselves <br> \u2022 stockpiling tablets or buying equipment that could harm themselves <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you notice any of these warning signs in a relative, loved one, or friend, encourage them to talk about how they are feeling and to share these concerns with a member of their healthcare team. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that there is a big difference between thoughts and actions. Thoughts come and go and don\u2019t have to be acted on. It\u2019s challenging to talk to someone about their suicidal thoughts, but you might be the only person who asks. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The person\u2019s doctor can provide a range of options for treating and managing mental health issues. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While waiting for the person to receive treatment, remove any means of suicide from their immediate environment, such as medicines, knives, or other sharp objects, and household chemicals, such as bleach. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think there is a high risk of a person dying by suicide before they can get professional help, do not leave them alone, unless something concerns you for your own safety. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the person agrees, you could go together to the local hospital emergency department. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost everyone who is thinking about suicide will usually give warnings or signs to people around them.
