Friendship problems and bullying or cyberbullying can have very major\neffects on how they feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all children can bounce back emotionally.&nbsp; When\nchildren are miserable and show several other changes in behavior that stop\nthem from taking part&nbsp;in their normal activities, they may be depressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is normal for children to feel down, be cranky or think\nnegatively&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;this is just part of growing up. Children have to go\nthrough a range of feelings to learn how to deal with them. Childhood\ndepression is more than just feeling sad, blue or low. Depression in children\nis a serious illness, which can affect children\u2019s physical and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are concerned your child might have depression, it is\nimportant to get professional help. Early treatment and support can help your\nchild get better faster and avoid mental health problems&nbsp;in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is hard to tell the difference between sadness and\ndepression in children. If you feel that something is not\nright, see your doctor. If you notice any of the following signs in your child,\nand these signs last longer than about two weeks, your child might have\ndepression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Changes in your child\u2019s emotions or behavior<\/strong>, you might notice that your child:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>seems sad or unhappy most of the time<\/li><li>is aggressive<\/li><li>says negative things about himself<\/li><li>feels guilty<\/li><li>is afraid or worried a lot.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Changes in your child\u2019s interest in everyday activities<\/strong>, you might notice that your child:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>does not have as much energy as she usually does<\/li><li>does not want to be around friends and family<\/li><li>is not interested in doing things he used to\nenjoy<\/li><li>has problems sleeping, including nightmares<\/li><li>has problems concentrating or remembering\nthings.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Changes in your child\u2019s behavior or academic performance at school<\/strong>, you might notice that your child:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>is not going so well academically<\/li><li>is not taking part in school activities<\/li><li>has problems fitting in at school<\/li><li>has problems getting along with other children.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your child is depressed, it can be hard for your child to\nlearn, make friends and make the most of daily life. If depression goes on for\na long time without treatment, the way your child learns and grows can also be\naffected, but children who have the right care can recover from depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your child says anything about suicide or self-harm,\nlike: \u2018I wish I was dead\u2019 or \u2018I do not want to wake up anymore\u2019&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;you\nshould take this very&nbsp;seriously.
