Parent engagement in learning\nstarts from early childhood and continues as children move through school and\nbeyond. With your support, your child can thrive in their learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are your child\u2019s first teacher and how you support your\nchild\u2019s learning matters. You have a key role in shaping your child\u2019s values,\nattitudes and approaches to learning at home, at school, and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parent engagement in children\u2019s learning is about working\nclosely with your child\u2019s teachers to help your child to succeed. Parent\nengagement means knowing what they are learning at school, bringing school\nlearning into the home, and helping teachers to know and understand your child\nso they can help your child to thrive at school. Strong partnerships between\nschools, parents and families are essential for children to be successful in\ntheir learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being engaged in your child\u2019s learning does not have to cost\na lot of money or take a lot of time. How you engage in your child\u2019s learning\nwill change as they grow older. You can let your child know that you value\neducation by showing an interest in what they are learning at school. Ask about\nlessons and how their teacher is teaching them. Talk positively about their\nschool, their teachers and about your own experiences of education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Show them the ways you continue to learn, even as an adult.\nLet them see you read and make sure they have comfy places to read. School and\npublic libraries are great resources and have books that cater to every child\u2019s\ninterests. Discuss their hopes for the future. Set high expectations for your\nchild\u2019s learning and show them you believe in them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your relationship with your child provides the foundation\nfor all their social relationships. Spend time together talking, playing games,\ntelling jokes and sharing stories. Keep in touch with your child\u2019s teachers about their interests,\nand how they are responding to school work. Share stories about weekend\nactivities with their teachers. Encourage your child to show relatives and\nfamily friends the things they have been working on at school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talk to your child about their friends and their\nrelationships. Find out their shared interests at school and ask about the\nthings they like to do together. Explore how they respond to problems and how\nthey celebrate their successes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let your child teach you. Find out what they are learning at\nschool and plan activities that will allow them to show their learning to the\nwhole family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give your child the opportunity to discover new things and\nexplore new interests.
